WeGlow Mail vs Mailchimp for non-profits: price and GDPR

WeGlow Mail fits Belgian and Dutch non-profits that want donations and email together. Prices, free plan and GDPR side by side, checked 2 Oct 2026.

WeGlow Mail is the better fit for most Belgian and Dutch non-profits that already collect donations and want to mail those supporters from the same place. Mailchimp is a large, general-purpose email tool with a free plan and many features, but it is built for businesses of every kind, and its contact-based prices are only shown in a calculator. Below you find what both vendors publish, checked on 2 October 2026.

At a glance

Mailchimp and WeGlow Mail are both free up to 250 contacts; after that WeGlow Mail starts at €19 a month.

  • WeGlow Mail: included free up to 250 contacts (500 emails a month), then from €19 per month (excl. VAT) for up to 1,000 contacts. Lives inside your WeGlow dashboard, next to your donations.
  • Mailchimp: free plan with up to 250 contacts and 500 sends a month (250 a day). Paid plans (Essentials, Standard, Premium) start at 500 contacts and scale up in contact bands.
  • Non-profit discount: Mailchimp offers 15% on request. WeGlow does not advertise a separate non-profit discount; its tiers are already priced for small organisations.
  • Data: Mailchimp processes European data in the United States under its own data protection addendum. WeGlow Mail is connected to your WeGlow account and donor data.

What do they cost at 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 contacts?

For WeGlow Mail the published tiers are: from €19 per month (excl. VAT) for up to 1,000 contacts, from €49 per month for up to 5,000 contacts and from €79 per month for up to 10,000 contacts.

With the WeGlow Pro platform plan (€40 per month or €400 per year) mailing is included up to 2,500 contacts, and the 5,000 and 10,000 tiers become €42 and €67 per month on top of Pro. Please check the current prices in your dashboard.

For Mailchimp we can only confirm the structure: its pricing page lets you choose bands such as 2,501 to 5,000 and 5,001 to 10,000 contacts, and the price for each band appears in a calculator that we could not read as plain text. So we do not quote a Mailchimp price at these sizes. Do the sum yourself on Mailchimp's page with the euro currency selected. What we can say is that Mailchimp counts contacts in bands and caps monthly sends per plan (10 times your contacts on Essentials, 12 times on Standard, 15 times on Premium), whereas WeGlow shows the monthly email allowance next to each tier, for example 12,000 emails a month at the 1,000-contact tier.

Free plan and non-profit discount

Both start free. Mailchimp's free plan covers up to 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, with a daily limit of 250. WeGlow Mail includes up to 250 contacts and 500 emails a month in every plan.

Mailchimp offers non-profits 15% off: sign up, then contact its billing team with your username and your website. Its page also mentions a 15% saving for the first 12 months for lists above 10,000 contacts.

GDPR and where the data lives

Mailchimp states that European customer data is transferred to the United States under a data processing addendum, and that it is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and builds the standard contractual clauses into its terms. That is a recognised legal route, but it does mean the transfer question belongs in your data protection record.

With WeGlow Mail, every campaign has a compliance footer with your name, address and unsubscribe link, a check step that excludes bounced and unsubscribed people, and a consent tickbox that is recorded at import. We do not publish a hosting-country statement for WeGlow Mail on this page, so ask us for the current one before you rely on it in a privacy notice.

Donor data, editor and Glowie

This is where WeGlow Mail is designed for you. It sits in your WeGlow dashboard with single sign-on, WeGlow donors can be synced into Mail contacts, and smart groups fill themselves from donations: active, frequent, monthly, lapsed and lost donors.

You can personalise with tags such as {{first_name}} and donation tags, and an automation can start on a new donation or a lapsed contact. In Mailchimp you would typically export your donors and import them, and keep both lists current yourself.

The editor is block-based, with text, image, button, divider and column blocks, a live desktop and mobile preview, test sends, ready-made layouts and your logo, colours and font applied to every mail. Glowie can draft a whole mail from an idea, in about 30 seconds, and you review and edit it before it goes out. Mailchimp's Standard plan lists AI tools too, and a 14-day free trial.

When does Mailchimp fit?

Mailchimp fits if you already have years of lists and automations in it, if you want its A/B testing (listed from Essentials) or a very large template and integration ecosystem, or if you send mostly to a business audience and do not collect donations through WeGlow. It also fits when its calculator turns out cheaper at your list size.

Our recommendation

If your supporters are donors, volunteers and members and you already run, or want to run, donations on WeGlow, start with WeGlow Mail: one login, donors who flow into your lists, and a writing helper that knows your cause.

Try it in your WeGlow dashboard. If you are unsure, send a first campaign to your own 250 free contacts and compare the experience.

Is Mailchimp free for non-profits?

Mailchimp has a free plan for up to 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, and a 15% discount on paid plans for non-profits on request.
