Run Teddy Run --> Sierra Leone marathon coming up!
Street Child Netherlands
"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get", said a wise man once. Well, this October, I do know what I’m getting myself into: dozens of kilometers through the heat, humidity, and tropical trails of Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone. To raise awareness and funds for Street Child, an NGO heavily into first aid, education and getting millions of kids the schooling they deserve. Will you be part of my mission? Why am I doing this? Street Child started their journey in Sierra Leone back in 2008. Since then, their mission has been simple yet life-changing: to ensure every child is safe, in school, and learning. In a country where historical civil war and the Ebola crisis left deep scars, thousands of children still lack access to basic education, and over 50% of families live in extreme poverty. Street Child is there, on the ground - where aid is needed most. Give me some success numbers! 1,800,000+ children: Since 2008, Street Child has supported over 1.8 million vulnerable children into education across 20+ countries. Sustainable help: They don’t just build classrooms; their Family Business Scheme provides grants, training, and micro-loans to help parents start small businesses. This means families can independently afford to keep their kids in school long-term. Local power: Street Child works directly with local Sierra Leonean (and MANY other countries) teachers, social workers, and community leaders to drive real change. Before race day, I will actually get to visit these projects and meet the children and families whose lives are being transformed by these exact programs. !!! SHOW ME THE MONEY !!! Just to give you an idea of where your money goes: €15 can help cover basic school supplies for a child. €30 can send a kid to school for a year €50 can help fund essential training for local teachers. €100 can help provide a family business grant to secure a child's education for good. €500 pays the annual salary for two rural teachers! €2500 will set up a seed bank and use the profits to run a refurbished rural school Any amount makes a huge difference. Thank you so much for your support, your donations, and for cheering me on! As Forrest would say: "That's all I have to say about that." (Now hit that donate button! 👇)
