WeGlow for charities in the United Kingdom

Online fundraising for UK charities, from donation page to event day

WeGlow is an online fundraising platform for charities, community groups, clubs and schools. A UK charity can build its own branded donation page, run a Christmas or GivingTuesday appeal, sell tickets for a quiz night or a gala dinner and give supporters their own fundraising pages, and every gift lands on one supporter record.

You set it up yourself, at your own pace. Creating an account is free, and your donation page only goes live once your payments are connected.

Taking donations from supporters in the United Kingdom

Your donation page takes gifts in GBP. Donors in the United Kingdom can pay with Visa / Mastercard and Pay by Bank.

Payments are processed by Mollie. Your charity connects its own Mollie account, so donations are paid out to your organisation by Mollie rather than held by WeGlow.

Your donation page carries your own logo and colours, and each suggested amount can say what the gift does. You can also embed the donation form on your own website.

Gift Aid: how it works, and what WeGlow does today

Gift Aid lets a charity or community amateur sports club recognised by HMRC claim back the basic rate tax a donor has already paid on a gift. It only applies when the donor is a UK taxpayer who has paid enough Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax to cover what all charities claim on their gifts in that tax year, and has given the charity a Gift Aid declaration. The charity then makes its claim to HMRC online.

According to GOV.UK, a declaration names your charity, records the donor's full name and home address, says which gifts it covers, states that the donor wants Gift Aid to apply, and tells the donor they must pay any difference if their tax does not cover the amount claimed.

WeGlow does not handle this scheme for you. WeGlow's donation form does not collect Gift Aid declarations, and it does not send claims to HMRC. If you claim Gift Aid, collect declarations with your own form and keep each one with the gift it covers. Every donation is stored with the donor's details in WeGlow, and you can export your donor list as a spreadsheet to match gifts to declarations.

Monthly giving

Regular givers are what let a small charity plan beyond the next appeal. On a WeGlow donation page, a supporter can choose a monthly gift paid by card instead of a one-off one: the first payment sets it up, and the following gifts are taken from the same card automatically.

Every gift, one-off or monthly, appears on that supporter's record, so you can see who gives regularly and thank them properly.

Appeals, events and challenge fundraisers

Run your Christmas appeal, a GivingTuesday push at the start of December or a Small Charity Week campaign in June from one campaign page, and share it by email and on social media.

Sell tickets for a quiz night, a gala dinner or a coffee morning, and scan them at the door. When supporters take on a spring marathon, a sponsored walk or a bake sale for you, each one gets a personal fundraising page, on their own or in a team, and everything they raise counts towards your campaign.

Your supporters and your thank-yous in one place

Donors, ticket buyers and fundraisers all end up in your supporter list in WeGlow, with their gifts and history together. Once you have written a thank-you text, every donor gets a thank-you email automatically after their gift.

When you need more, WeGlow CRM and WeGlow Mail let you keep fuller supporter records and send newsletters and appeals from the same account. You will find what each one costs on our pricing page.

Who WeGlow is for in the United Kingdom

WeGlow is built for charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, OSCR in Scotland or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, and for charitable incorporated organisations, community amateur sports clubs, community interest companies, schools, clubs and community groups.

Anyone can create an account and build a page. Before you can take donations, Mollie reviews your organisation and decides whether it can accept it, and only bodies recognised by HMRC as charities or community amateur sports clubs can claim Gift Aid.

Frequently asked questions

How does a UK charity get started with WeGlow?

A charity, community group or club in the United Kingdom can create a WeGlow account on its own and set up a donation page in GBP. To take donations, you connect your own Mollie account. Mollie reviews your organisation first and decides whether it can accept it.

Which payment methods can donors in the United Kingdom use?

Donors in the United Kingdom can pay with Visa / Mastercard and Pay by Bank. We only list the methods we have checked for the United Kingdom; your Mollie account may offer others as well.

Does WeGlow claim Gift Aid for us?

WeGlow does not handle this scheme for you. WeGlow does not send Gift Aid claims to HMRC, and its donation form does not collect Gift Aid declarations. Collect declarations with your own form, keep them with each gift, and make your claim to HMRC online; your WeGlow donor list helps you match gifts to declarations.

Can supporters set up a monthly gift?

Yes. A supporter can choose a monthly gift paid by card on your WeGlow donation page: the first payment sets it up, and the following gifts are taken from the same card automatically. You see every monthly giver in your supporter list, so you can thank them as regular givers.

Can our supporters fundraise for us at a marathon or a coffee morning?

Yes. Each supporter can start a personal fundraising page for your campaign or event, alone or as part of a team, and what they raise counts towards your total. You see every fundraiser and their donors in WeGlow.

What does it cost to get started?

Creating an account and building your first donation page is free. Mollie charges its own fee on each payment, and you will find WeGlow's current plans and fees on our pricing page.

Do I need technical skills?

No. You build your pages in the browser by adding your story, photos and suggested amounts. There is nothing to install.
