Best fundraising platforms for Belgian non-profits (2026)
WeGlow fits most Belgian non-profits best: free start, tax certificates, everything in one place. We also compare Koalect, Whydonate, Steunactie and GoFundMe.
For most Belgian non-profits in 2026, WeGlow is the best-fitting fundraising platform: it is free to start, it is built for organisations (not private appeals), and campaigns, community fundraisers, events with tickets, monthly gifts and Belgian tax certificates live in one place. Koalect suits larger teams with IT support, while Whydonate, Steunactie.be and GoFundMe fit simpler or one-off appeals. Here is how we got there.
At a glance
Five platforms side by side, with prices as each one publishes them.
- WeGlow: free plan, a 5% platform fee per donation that donors are asked to cover, tax certificates sent in one click.
- Koalect: yearly licence from €720 (GIVE) or €3,330 (DO), plus 0.5% to 3% per transaction, plus payment provider fees.
- Whydonate: no platform fee, €0.35 flat per Bancontact or iDEAL payment, and a voluntary tip asked from donors.
- Steunactie.be: 6% plus €0.60 per donation (both including VAT), paid by the organiser.
- GoFundMe: 2.9% plus €0.25 per donation in Belgium (VAT included).
Why does WeGlow come first for a vzw?
Because it covers what a Belgian association actually does in a year, without stitching tools together. On WeGlow's pricing page, the free plan includes branded campaigns, community fundraising, ticketing, donation forms in your own branding, a donor overview, fiscal information, monthly gifts and the Glowie AI fundraising coach.
The paid Pro plan adds donation widgets for your own website and upselling to monthly gifts.
Community fundraising means your supporters start their own fundraiser page for one of your campaigns or events. Events come with tickets and live totals. Donors can give once or monthly, each with their own suggested amounts, and the form is available in Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish. WeGlow is made only for non-profits, so there is no setup fee to wade through and no implementation project.
Payments run through providers such as Mollie, Stripe and Payconiq, so Bancontact and cards are covered.
What do the platforms really cost?
Four different models hide behind the word "cheap". Check which one you are buying.
- A percentage on the donation. WeGlow charges 5%. Its pricing page says donors are asked to cover that cost on top of their gift, so the full amount can reach your organisation. Steunactie.be takes 6% plus €0.60, paid by the organiser.
- A flat fee per payment. Whydonate asks €0.35 for Bancontact or iDEAL and charges no platform fee. Its tip is voluntary and a donor can set it to zero, according to its fee page.
- A licence. Koalect publishes licences from €720 a year (GIVE) and from €3,330 a year (DO). Transaction fees of 0.5% to 3% come on top, and payment providers such as Stripe, Buckaroo or Twikey charge their own fees.
- A mix. GoFundMe charges 2.9% plus €0.25 per donation in Belgium.
A quick example: 200 gifts of €50 (€10,000) paid by Bancontact. Whydonate costs about €70 in platform-side fees. GoFundMe about €340. Steunactie.be €720. With WeGlow, if no donor covers the fee it is €500, and if every donor covers it your organisation pays nothing on that part. Koalect depends on the plan you pick: at least €720 plus 0.5% to 3% (€50 to €300) plus provider fees. These are platform figures only. Where you connect your own payment provider, its fees are extra.
The honest nuance: a flat fee wins on large gifts and a percentage wins on small ones. At €5, 5% is €0.25 and Whydonate's flat fee is €0.35. At €250, 5% is €12.50 against €0.35. Work it out with your own average gift.
Which platform helps with Belgian tax certificates?
This is the Belgian-specific test. Donors get a 30% tax reduction on gifts made since 1 January 2025, from at least €40 per year per institution, and the organisation must provide a fiscal certificate, according to the FOD Financiën.
On WeGlow, the organisation sends tax certificates to eligible donors in one click. It is a click, not an automatic mailing, and you still need to be a recognised institution to issue them. In the app, donors above €40 with a national registry number are listed in the Belcotax format.
Steunactie says donors give to the organiser rather than to Steunactie, so any certificate must come from the organiser. Ask every other platform how it handles the €40 threshold before you sign.
When does another platform fit better?
That depends on what your organisation needs.
- Koalect fits large organisations with a budget for a yearly licence, a dedicated account manager and someone to handle integrations.
- Whydonate fits an organisation that mostly receives large gifts and wants the lowest flat fee.
- Steunactie.be fits a quick one-off appeal that needs no separate payment account.
- GoFundMe fits recognisable, personal-style appeals.
- iRaiser targets large NGOs and, in our earlier check, did not publish prices.
Our recommendation
If you are a vzw, asbl or association with a small team, start with WeGlow: you pay nothing until you want Pro, you can leave whenever you like, and the Belgian tax-certificate workflow is built in. Pick Koalect when IT capacity and a licence budget are there, and a simpler platform when you only run a single appeal.
Do I need to be a vzw to fundraise online in Belgium?
No, but only recognised institutions can issue fiscal certificates, as the FOD Financiën explains. Without recognition you need a recognised partner.
From which amount is a gift tax-deductible in Belgium?
From €40 per year per institution, with a 30% reduction for gifts made since 1 January 2025.
Is WeGlow really free?
There is a free plan with a 5% platform fee per donation that donors are asked to cover. The paid Pro plan is optional. See the pricing page for the current price.
Which platform has the lowest fee?
It depends on your average gift. Flat fees such as Whydonate's win on large gifts, percentages win on small ones.
