WeGlow vs Doneeractie: fees and surcharges compared

Doneeractie charges 6% + EUR 0.49 plus method surcharges; WeGlow charges 5% whatever the method. Read the fair comparison.

Doneeractie or WeGlow? If you are an association, foundation or charity and your donors often pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, WeGlow is for most organisations the more predictable and often cheaper alternative. Doneeractie remains a fine choice for a one-off campaign where nearly everything arrives via iDEAL.

At a glance

Doneeractie charges 6% plus EUR 0.49 per donation, with surcharges per payment method. WeGlow charges 5% per donation, whatever the method. These are the four differences.

  • Rate: Doneeractie charges 6% plus EUR 0.49 per donation, including VAT, plus a one-off EUR 20 for business verification. WeGlow charges a 5% platform cost per donation, no verification fee, and the free plan is EUR 0 a month.
  • Surcharges: at Doneeractie, per-method surcharges come on top: credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay +4%, PayPal +3.4%, Belfius and KBC/CBC +1.1%. iDEAL, Wero and Bancontact carry none. At WeGlow it is 5% whatever the payment method.
  • Who pays: at WeGlow the donor is asked to cover the cost. Doneeractie's fees are taken from what the recipient receives.
  • Who can start: anyone at Doneeractie, including private individuals. At WeGlow only charities, foundations and associations.

What does Doneeractie really cost?

The rate is out in the open on their fees page (valid from 1 May 2026): 6% + EUR 0.49 including VAT, plus EUR 20 one-off for business KYC verification. The surcharges come on top. A EUR 50 donation via iDEAL costs EUR 3.49. The same EUR 50 by credit card or Apple Pay: 10% + EUR 0.49 is EUR 5.49.

On EUR 10,000 in 200 gifts of EUR 50 that is EUR 698 if everything goes via iDEAL, and EUR 1,098 if everything goes by card or Apple Pay. That is our own arithmetic on their published rates.

What does WeGlow cost?

WeGlow charges 5% per donation, the same 5% for iDEAL, card or Apple Pay. On that EUR 10,000 it is EUR 500 if no donor covers the cost. Then the full gift reaches you.

To be fair: at WeGlow you connect your own payment account (Mollie or Stripe), and that account's charges come on top. At Doneeractie, payment costs are inside the rate. Pro costs EUR 40 a month or EUR 400 a year; the free plan covers the basics.

What can you do with it?

Doneeractie is easy: starting a campaign is free, payouts run weekly on Fridays, and anyone can take part. We did not find monthly gifts documented.

WeGlow is built for organisations that keep growing:

  • One-off and monthly gifts, each with its own amounts and labels.
  • Supporter fundraising: people start their own page for your campaign.
  • Ticketed events with live totals.
  • Your own branding, plus Glowie rewriting your story in three tones, with you deciding.
  • A thank-you email that goes out automatically once you have filled in a thank-you text.
  • Five languages: Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish.

When does Doneeractie fit?

Choose Doneeractie if you are setting up a personal campaign as an individual, nearly all your donors pay via iDEAL and you do not want to create a payment account. Then it is simple and predictable enough.

Conclusion

For charities, foundations and associations we recommend WeGlow: one rate whatever the payment method, no verification fee, and more tools to grow. Start free at weglow.world; you do need an account first.
