WeGlow vs Steunactie for Belgian non-profits
Steunactie charges 6% plus €0.60 per donation and issues no certificates; WeGlow is a full suite for non-profits. A comparison.
Steunactie and WeGlow look alike at first glance, but they serve different audiences. Steunactie is a crowdfunding platform for everyone, individuals included, charging 6% including VAT plus €0.60 per donation. WeGlow is built for vzw's, foundations and associations, and gives you campaigns, events, monthly gifts, donor management and tax certificates in one system. If you are an organisation that wants to build a donor base, we recommend WeGlow.
At a glance
- Steunactie: free to start, 6% including VAT (5% excluding) plus €0.60 including VAT per donation. A business bank account carries a one-off €20 verification fee. Payouts every Wednesday.
- WeGlow: a free plan, a 5% platform fee per donation that your donor is asked to cover, and no fixed fee per donation. Pro costs €40 a month or €400 a year.
Who can start: on Steunactie anyone, individuals included. On WeGlow charities, vzw's and associations.
What does it cost?
Steunactie's fees page states a fee of 6% including VAT on the donated amount, plus €0.60 including VAT per donation. Some payment methods add a variable part: 4% for credit card and 3.4% for PayPal, while iDEAL, Bancontact and bank transfer carry no extra percentage. You can also use your own Mollie account, at Mollie's rates.
A worked example on €10,000 in 200 gifts of €50, paid by Bancontact: Steunactie charges 6% (€600) plus 200 × €0.60 (€120), which makes €720.
At WeGlow the platform fee is 5% per donation, so at most €500 in this example. Your donor is asked to cover it; whatever they cover you do not pay. There is no fixed fee per donation. Your payment provider (Mollie or Stripe, on your own account) charges its rate separately. For an organisation that receives many small gifts, Steunactie's fixed €0.60 weighs extra heavily.
Tax certificates
For a Belgian organisation this is no detail. In its FAQ, Steunactie says you donate to the organiser rather than to Steunactie, so you ask the organiser for any certificate. The platform does not issue them itself.
WeGlow collects what you need with every gift, including the national registry number, and lets you send certificates to all eligible donors with one click. It is not automatic; you remain the issuer.
More than an action page
On Steunactie you put a fundraiser online. On WeGlow you build your whole fundraising:
- campaigns and peer-to-peer with fundraiser pages and teams;
- events with ticketing;
- one-off and monthly gifts, each with its own amounts and labels;
- donor management where every gift lands;
- WeGlow Mail and donation forms for your own website on the Pro plan;
- Glowie, our AI helper, who drafts campaigns, forms and events for you to review and confirm.
WeGlow is Belgian, built in Ghent, and works in Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish.
When does Steunactie fit?
- You raise money as an individual, for example for a personal cause or a neighbourhood initiative without a legal form. WeGlow is not for individuals.
- You want one small, one-off action with no donor management or certificates.
- You like payouts on a fixed weekly Wednesday.
Our recommendation
If you are a vzw, foundation or association, choose WeGlow. You start free, have no contract and get a complete suite with certificate support, without a fixed fee per donation. Steunactie remains a good choice for a simple action by an individual.
