Can I organise an auction with WeGlow?

Yes. You create an auction with one item or several items, and you link them to your organisation. Supporters, volunteers or partners can also offer items themselves for your cause.

Each item has a title, a description, a category, photos, a starting bid and a start and end date. That makes an auction fit a gala, a social media campaign or a running campaign.

How do you set up an auction?

You set up an auction in five steps: add items, fill in the details, set the starting bid and dates, choose the type and publish. You need no technical knowledge.

  1. Choose whether you auction one item or several items.
  2. Fill in the title, description, category and photos.
  3. Set the starting bid, the start date and the end date.
  4. Choose the type: classic with one winner, or with several winners, where the highest bids win.
  5. Publish the auction and share the link by email, on social media or on your website.

How does bidding work?

Bidders create an account, place a bid and follow the auction in real time. Anyone who is outbid gets a notification by email, and by text message if they switch that on. Bidders also get a notification when the auction ends in less than an hour.

A bid is binding: according to the terms of the auction platform, it cannot be withdrawn. The starting bid is the minimum price. If no bid reaches that amount, the auction can end without a winner.

What happens after the auction ends?

After the auction, the winner is determined. They receive a notification and a payment link that is valid for 24 hours. The winner pays the winning bid plus a 5% buyer's premium, and 100% of the winning bid goes to your cause.

Payment runs through a payment provider, such as Mollie. You follow your auctions, the proceeds and the payments in your dashboard. A payment can have the status paid, pending, failed or refunded.

For your organisation, WeGlow Auctions is part of the free plan: €0 per month. The platform charges the 5% to the winner as a buyer's premium, on top of the winning bid. Pro, at €40 per month or €400 per year, is not needed for auctions.

Does an auction raise more than a plain gift?

It depends. A study in Management Science found that auctions whose proceeds went to a good cause fetched significantly higher selling prices, but that concerns one specific set-up. Experiments by Isaac, Pevnitskaya and Salmon, on the other hand, found no substantially higher revenue from bidders caring about the cause.
