Payment methods for your donation page in 2026

Which payment methods matter for donors in your country? Cards, wallets, bank transfers and local options explained, plus what WeGlow.world offers.

TL;DR Donors give faster when they can pay the way they pay every day. Cards work almost everywhere, wallets speed up giving on phones, and local methods such as bank debits or national schemes win donors in their home market. WeGlow.world supports cards, plus Bancontact, iDEAL and Payconiq where they exist, through providers like Mollie and Stripe. Availability depends on country and provider.

On Giving Tuesday a donor leaves as soon as the payment step feels awkward. One unfamiliar or missing method is enough. That is why it pays to check, well before the day, what your donation page shows.

This article has no default country and no market share figures. It gives you a way to choose: who are your donors, where do they live, and what do they already use? Giving Tuesday 2026 is on 1 December.

Why do payment methods matter for your donation page?

The payment method is the last screen before the gift. If it feels familiar, the donor finishes. If it feels strange, they close the page. One well known method in the right place outweighs ten methods nobody recognises.

The official GivingTuesday toolkit suggests sending people to a donation page you choose yourself. What that page offers at checkout decides whether a supporter's good intention becomes a real gift.

Which kinds of payment methods exist?

Most donation pages draw on four groups: cards, digital wallets, bank based methods (transfers and direct debits) and local schemes tied to one country. Cards are the broadest net. The others win donors who prefer, or only have, a local habit.

TypeSuitsWatch out for
CardsDonors in almost any countrySome donors dislike typing card details
WalletsDonors who pay on their phoneDepends on device and provider
Bank transfer or direct debitDonors who trust their bank more than cardsSlower to confirm, rules differ per country
Local methodsDonors in one home marketUseless outside that country

Mollie lists cards, wallets such as Apple Pay, bank methods such as SEPA Direct Debit and iDEAL, and Bancontact in its payment methods overview. That page does not say which country each method serves, so confirm availability with your provider.

How do you choose methods for your country?

Start from your donors, not from a list. Look at where most of your supporters live, ask a few of them how they usually pay online, and then switch on two to four methods that cover that group. Add a card as a safety net for everyone else.

  1. List the countries your donors live in.
  2. For each country, ask your payment provider which local methods it supports.
  3. Pick the one or two local methods your donors actually use.
  4. Add cards for everyone else.
  5. Test every method yourself on a phone.

A hypothetical example: a charity with donors in two countries picks a card plus one local method per country, so four methods in total. It does not add a fifth because a provider offers it.

What are local methods worth?

Local methods are worth the most where donors know them by heart. Belgium has Bancontact and the Netherlands has iDEAL, for example. In your country the equivalent may be a bank debit or a national app. If you cannot name it, ask your provider before you build the page.

Tax rules and receipts also differ per country. Fiscal proof for gifts is not the same everywhere, so ask your tax authority what your donors receive. Questions about fiscal receipts on WeGlow.world can go through our contact page.

How do you set them up with WeGlow.world?

With WeGlow.world, donors pay with cards, plus Bancontact, iDEAL and Payconiq where those exist in the country, through payment providers such as Mollie and Stripe. Payment runs through the provider, not through a homemade solution. Your donation page carries your own logo and colour.

  1. Create a free account on WeGlow.world.
  2. Set up your donation page with the Giving Tuesday preset.
  3. Connect your payment provider following the steps in your account.
  4. Make a small real gift of 5 euros yourself to test the whole chain.
  5. Check that the thank you email arrives once you have filled in a thank you text.

Which methods are active depends on your provider, your country and your settings. Provider fees are on the provider's own site, not in this article. WeGlow.world rates are on the pricing page. Amounts for your preset differ per country, so choose them with the guide on amounts and labels.

What are the common mistakes?

Most payment problems only show up on Giving Tuesday itself, when it is too late. Test early, on a phone, with a real small gift. You then find a broken method before your donors do.

Have everything ready at least 2 weeks before 1 December and test once more. Offer 2 to 4 methods, not more, and send the thank you within 24 hours.

  • Never trying the payment step yourself
  • Testing on a computer only, while most donors give on a phone
  • Promising a method in an email that your page does not show
  • Postponing the test to the morning of 1 December
  • Not checking that the thank you email arrives after payment

Frequently asked questions

Which payment methods does WeGlow.world offer?

Cards, plus Bancontact, iDEAL and Payconiq where they exist, through providers such as Mollie and Stripe. WeGlow.world does not promise every method in every country, since availability depends on country and provider.

Do I need a local method as well as cards?

Often yes, if most donors live in one country with a strong local habit. Cards alone work, but a local method can lift completion. WeGlow.world lets you decide what your page shows, within what your provider supports.

Are wallets and bank transfers available?

Mollie lists wallets such as Apple Pay and bank methods such as SEPA Direct Debit, but we do not present them as WeGlow.world features. Ask for availability in your country through the contact page.

How do I test payment in advance?

Make a small real gift, for instance 5 euros, on a phone. Then check that the thank you email arrives. With WeGlow.world it goes out as soon as a thank you text is filled in.

What do the methods cost?

It varies per provider and is published on their site, so we quote no amounts here. WeGlow.world rates are on the pricing page. You can start free, with no setup fees and no contract.
